Scars of Memory
Mixed media, Sculptural Installation
In Scars of Memory, Davit transforms personal history into a universal meditation on war and survival. A small round table becomes the pedestal for barbed wire, symbolizing both Russia’s ongoing occupation of 20% of Georgia and the 2008 bombing of the artist’s hometown—an attack that claimed the lives of his neighbors while his parents survived by what he calls a miracle. Beneath the wire, layers of soil and collaged images anchor the work in lived memory. Entwined within the barbs, a single fragile leaf speaks to the precariousness of life—easily torn, yet remarkably enduring. The installation stands as both wound and witness, holding the scar of war while affirming the resilience to remember.
