Beyond Material was an experimental investigation into the thresholds between visible and invisible perception. Bringing together two- and three-dimensional works, the exhibition considered material not as a fixed endpoint, but as a passage toward experiences that remain elusive, psychological, or unseen.

Installed within the transitional architecture of the MassArt Tower Lobby, the works entered into dialogue with movement, light, reflection, and the changing positions of viewers. Surfaces appeared to contain depth; objects shifted between physical presence and perceptual uncertainty. Through these encounters, the installation questioned whether appearance belongs entirely to the object or is continually reconstructed through attention.

Across the exhibition, presence and absence operated as interdependent conditions. What could be physically seen became inseparable from memory, projection, and imagination. Beyond Material proposed that an artwork extends beyond its visible form, unfolding as a shifting perceptual field between object, space, and viewer.
