Identity and Memory brings together works that extend Botchorishvili’s inquiry beyond the painted surface. Moving across photography, sculpture, installation, reflection, sound, and digital imagery, these projects examine the self as neither singular nor fixed, but continually reconstructed through memory, perception, and representation.
Rather than forming one continuous series, the works operate as a constellation of related investigations. Personal and collective histories intersect with mediated images, mirrored surfaces, and unstable forms, revealing identity as something shaped between inner experience and external encounter—between what is remembered, what is projected, and what remains unseen.
Insta Identity transforms three Instagram pages, curated through Botchorishvili’s photography since 2016, into a monumental installation. Suspended from the gallery ceiling on continuous rolls of photographic paper, the work presents parallel expressions of identity shaped through abstraction, desire, memory, and everyday experience. The digital grid becomes a physical environment, revealing the self as something curated, multiplied, and continually reconstructed.
Drawing upon memories of displacement and war, Scars of Memory brings soil, photographic fragments, and barbed wire into a precarious structure in which personal history intersects with contested land, transforming memory into something simultaneously material, fragmented, and unresolved.
Combining a dark reflective surface with a poem engraved in a Fibonacci spiral, The Whisper from the Obsidian Glass draws viewers into an intimate encounter in which reading, reflection, and self-observation gradually become inseparable.
Drawing on Jungian symbolism, I Am. Am I? Who Am I? uses squares and concentric circles to question identity. A magnetically suspended central mirror completes the work through the viewer’s changing reflection, evoking the Self as a gravitational center repeatedly encountered through individuation process.
