FISH DON’T SLEEP

August 30–October 19, 2025
MassArt x SoWa Gallery, Boston, Massachusetts
Juried graduate alumni exhibition
Role: Participating artist

FISH DON’T SLEEP, the fifth annual MassArt Graduate Alumni Exhibition, brought together artists from across the college’s graduate master’s programs and generations of alumni. Encompassing varied materials, methods, and perspectives, the exhibition reflected the creative practices that continue to develop beyond the structure of formal education.

Its evocative title suggests a condition of wakefulness: an instinct to remain alert, responsive, and in motion. Like fish whose survival depends upon continual awareness of their surroundings, artists maintain an attentive relationship with a world that is constantly shifting. The exhibition can therefore be understood as a constellation of practices shaped by persistence, observation, and ongoing transformation.

Botchorishvili’s contribution extended his investigation of attention and perception through repeated, undulating forms. The work invites sustained looking, allowing visual rhythm to shift between surface and depth, stillness and movement, stability and perceptual uncertainty.
